About the Pacific Crest Trail
The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is a National Scenic Trail that stretches from Mexico to Canada through three states – California, Oregon and Washington. This 2,650-mile trail crosses arid deserts and high mountain passes with some of the most spectacular scenery to be seen in the country including the Sierra Nevada of California and the Cascade Range in Oregon and Washington. Many people hike the entire trail in one season, which is called “thru-hiking.” It requires a great deal of experience, training, planning and preparation. In a typical year only half of the people who attempt to hike the entire trail do so. With the snow in the Sierra Nevada, Oregon and Washington, it is best to start hiking at the Mexican border in late April or early May. People typically reach Canada sometime in September.
